The Rabbit and the Dragon

Dragons Lair Designs has started some challenges on it's Facebook Page after a period of relative inactivity. Not one to miss out on a free image here is my offering.

DSC_0571(watermarked)
Materials used:Dragons Lair Designs: Rabbit Image from Facebook Fan Page
My Favorite Things Die-namics: Designer Label set 2
Hot of the Press: Garden Scattered Flowers 12x12 Paper
Distress Oxides: Pickled Raspberry, Seedless Preserve
Copic pens
watercolor paper
X-Press It card

The rabbit is coloured then fussy cut. The mat layer is made with the distress oxides on watercolour paper and spritzed with water to get the drops effect.
The Dragons Lair Designs challenge ends today but there will be another one in March so why not go over to their Facebook page and take a look. Also there are some lovely papers and images in the new Etsy shop worth taking a look at.

Thanks for visiting today. Take care.

RAK with Scrappers Delights

Scrappers Delights have finished having monthly progressive challenges on their Facebook page, instead they are having RAK challenges where you can use any Scrappers Delights images. Also once a month there will be a freebie you can use. This month's image is Winter Crystal.

DSC_0551(watermarked)
Materials used:Scrapper's Delights - Winter CrystalImagine That Digistamp - Satin Fabrics Digi Paper
Pink Frog - Ice Crystal Paper 170gsm
vellum
large square gems
small green brads
X-Press It card
Copic pens
Pearl shimmer paint

The green backing paper is printed from the Satin Fabrics set onto vellum and the red matt is from the same set but printed on Ice Crystal paper.

The image is coloured with Copics but the crystals are painted with a pearl shimmer paint.

This image was a real challenge, not the usual image I would go for by choice. However I did enjoy the challenge although not completely happy with the results. I think I need to learn how to colour the crystals!

Thanks for dropping by. Take care.

Christmas!

I know, it's a bit early but with all the snow warnings in force across the UK for the next few days I feel appropriate! Also in order to enter this month's Twelve Months of Christmas challenge I had to do it!

DSC_0569(watermarked)

Materials used:Beccy's Place - The Nativity Digital Stamps
Craft Creations - CRC185P Red/Green Carols Cream
X-Press It card
A5 Card Blank
Copic pens

The image and greeting are arranged and printed on X-Press It card then coloured with Copics.

A piece of Red/Green Carols Cream card is trimmed to size, edged with a black pen and mounted on the card front leaving a narrow border.

The coloured image is trimmed and also edged with a black pen then attached to the card front.

I have left the right hand side clear for now as I am not sure if I want to add a greeting or not at this stage! I have made this one with my husband in mind but it remains to be seen whether I remember it in 10 months time!

Thanks for swinging by. Take care.

Playing With My Prize!

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate in winning the CraftStash prize on their live Facebook show. I won the first three months of the complete sets of the Flower of the Month series by Apple Blossom. I started with the March flower which is the daffodil.

DSC_0547(watermarked)
Materials used:
Apple Blossom - 12 Months of Flowers March Daffodil Complete Set
watercolour paper
X-Press It card
Copic pens
Distress Inks: Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, Ripe Persimmon
Rubber Stampede - Elegant Thank You
black archival ink pad

The flowers, leaves and stems all come as individual stamps so that you can build up your flower how you want. I used the die to cut out the flower head but fussy cut the leaves and stem.

The background is made from watercolour paper which has had the daffodil heads stenciled on using the various distress inks. Having stencilled in the flowers I used the ink left on the brushes to put some colour on the surrounding area. The finished paper was then embossed with the stencil from the set and cut to fit the front of a 15cm square card blank.

The flower is arranged on the front of the card and the greeting stamped in.

It was fun trying out all the elements in the set and trying something completely different. The stencil makes it so easy to put in the flower details as it comes with three different parts that layer up. I probably wouldn't use all the elements every time but it was a good way to play around a bit, especially as stencils and embossing is something I do not do very often.

I made a simpler card with the left over bits.

Postal Love

Today I want to show you the card I made with the freebie image from Pattie's Creations.

DSC_0556(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:
Pattie's Creations - Postage Stamp Hugs and Kisses
red, dark pink and gold card
X-Press It card
Copic pens
A5 card blank

All the layers have come from my box of snippets which is overflowing a bit so it was good to use some up. Even the A5 red was left from a sheet of A4 from a previous project. The stamp has been fussy cut and the layers cut with a wavey blade on my cutter. I did not have one that matched exactly the stamp edge so went with the nearest rather than straight lines.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

The designer paper has little pink tulips on it to go with the tulip that the grey bunny is holding, also the red card has an embossed tulip design on it.

Sunny Flowers For Mother

As well as their usual challenges, Outlawz has a special set of challenges to celebrate it's 7th Birthday. One of them is to make a project using a free image from SheepSki Designs.

DSC_0538(watermarked)
Materials used:Sheepski Designs - Sunflowers (available by email request for members of the Outlawz Challenges)
Clear Impressions Floral Flourish set (from Creative Stamping Magazine)
Graphic 45 - French Country 6x6 pad
Distress Oxide inks - Peeled Paint and Fossilized Amber
X-Press It card
Copic pens
yellow organza ribbon
yellow eyelets
black archival ink pad
A5 card blank

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics. The background is made with the distress oxides applied with a sponge and lightly spritzed. The image is attached to a mat from the Graphic 45 pad with eyelets.

The topper is attached to the card front and the sentiment stamped underneath. Finally the bow is added.

The Outlawz Challenge does not stipulate that you have to create a birthday card so I hope a Mother's Day one is acceptable.

Thank you for dropping in. Take care.

Old Boots

Beccy's Place Challenge this month has a sketch theme to follow. As with all her challenges Beccy provides a free image each month and this month was a pair of boots a great image for the men. As the boots come without laces I found a quote from Harry Styles to go with them, I hope he will not mind!

DSC_0540(watermarked)

Materials used:Beccy's Place Boots (freebie available from challenge blog)
X-Cut square die set
X-Cut scalloped rectangle die
Cropodile
brown textured card and green card
X-Press It card
K & Company Life's Journey London Map 12x12 paper
Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Copic pens

The boots and the quote are printed out together on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics then cut with a square die. A slightly larger mat is cut with the next size die.

The designer paper is cut with a scalloped edged rectangle die (I don't have a square one). The card is assembled as in the picture with the two sizes of green circles punched out using a Cropodile.

The trickiest part of this card was cutting a scalloped square with only a scalloped rectangle. It was a case of careful positioning of the die so as not to cut in the wrong place.

I have coloured in a lot of boots over the past couple of years, not least because my youngest daughter's wedding had a walking theme so the invites, place name card and order of service all had boots on. The place name cards had a very small pair of boots on them! Also since she, her husband and my husband are all keen walkers boots have appeared on several birthday cards. It's a good job I like colouring boots!

Thanks for walking in. Take care.

Wild Roses For January

I have set myself the challenge to create a calendar for next year which means producing 12 pictures of flowers. The free image for the Progressive Challenge at Outlawz Challenges is a lovely Wild Rose from Beccy's Place so that became January's page.

DSC_0536(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:Beccy's Place - Wild Rose
calendar downloaded from Calendarpedia
X-Press It card
Copic pens

The image is arranged on an A5 page and printed onto X-Press It card. Once coloured the calendar is sized to fit and printed off.

Every edge has a black pen edge using a Copic.

Well that is one page done, only anther 11 to go! I am going to add some information about the Wild Rose flower on the back of the page before making up the finished project.

Thank you for swinging by. Take care.

Shades of Red on the Path of Positivity

Is it me or does time seem to be speeding up? It is already the half way point of our challenge at Path of Positivity with the optional theme Shades of Red. As this is the month in which most of the world celbrates Valentine's day I have gone with a more traditional approach, the red rose.

DSC_0503(watermarked)
Materials used:Pattie's Creations - I Love You Hearts and Roses
frame die
designer paper from stash
X-Press It card
red embossed card
square card blank (folded to make and easel card)
Copic pens
chalks and foam bud
gold peel-off greeting
red ribbon rose

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copic pens. The hearts are coloured with pink chalk, it's so subtle the camera did not pick it up very well!

The coloured image is trimmed to fit inside the frame which I found in my snippet box. I guess I must have cut it for a different project and then not used it. The frame and image are attached to a square of red card big enough to make the front of the card.

The insid is lined with the same red card as the front. A strip of white card attached to a strip of red card is used to make the 'stopper' and a gold peel-off greeting added.

Just to finish off a small red ribbon rose is added.

Many crafters will, I am sure, be making projects that have some link to Valentine's day, or love or even maybe weddings. So if you have a suitable project please come and join in the fun at Path of Positivity.  We have two great sponsors offering prizes this month, Ike's Art and Pattie's Creations. All the details of how to enter and the prizes available can be found at the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for swinging by. Take care.

Engaging Times

Just before Valentine's Day my neice announced her engagement to her long-standing boyfriend, catching everyone by surprise! I think she was surprised as well. When Mo from Mo's Digital Pencil very generously gave her Facebook fans a free image for Valentine's Day I knew I had the perfect occassion to use it.

DSC_0526(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:Mo's Digital Pencil - Lemur Love
metalic striped designer paper
black card
silver and gold mirri card
X-Press It card
Copic pens
white acrylic paint
white A5 card blank
acrylic greeting stamp
black archival ink pad
heart gem
circle cutter

The lemurs are printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics then fussy cut. The matting and layering is made with circles of black, silver and gold mirri card on a piece of metalic striped paper.

The greeting is stamped on with black ink and the gem added to the middle.
The young couple have not announced a date yet but everyone is looking forward to it and hope it is sooner rather than later.

Bingo with Bugaboo

A new weekly challenge starts at Catch the Bug this week. This time around there is a bingo card to inspire you.

For my card I have chosen to use the top horizontal line.

Materials used:Bugaboo Digi Stamps - (Mildred) Chocolate Enriched
Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Digi Papers - Sweet
X-Press It card
printer paper
Copic pens
snippet of gold ribbon
flat-backed pearls
A5 card blank

Image and accompanying sentiment are printed on X-Press It card. The image is coloured with Copic pens and then fussy cut.

The front of the card is covered with one of the digi papers and a slightly smaller piece added on top.

The sentiment is trimmed and edged with a brown Copic pen. Mildred is added then a small gold ribbon bow added to her hair and pearls added for her buttons.

I hope you will be able to join in the Bingo fun this week at Catch the Bug. You can find details of the prizes on offer and how to enter at the Catch the Bug Challenge Blog.

A lot of the blogs I visit list the pens they use for colouring and I was wondering whether to do the same. What do you think?

Scribbles Designs Goes Green

This month at Scribbles Designs the theme is 'Go for Green'. There is a lot you could do with this theme - St Patrick, environment, amphibians and bugs etc. I have chosen the loveable Carl for my card this time.

DSC_0501(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:Scribbles Designs - #326 Carl Birthday
Scribbles Designs - #8114 Presents
X-Press It card
Copic pens

The two images and the computer generated greeting are printed out on a sheet of X-Press It card which is used for the card base. The design is coloured with Copic pens.

The remit for this month's theme is that the majority of your card needs to feature green. I think my card might just get away with it because the camera lies! The bottom present of the stack is actually green blue not blue  but it does not show up too well in the photo.

I hope you will join us this month. All the information you need can be found at the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog. The rules and how to enter are located in the right hand side bar, you may need to scroll down until you find them.  You do not have to use a Scribbles Design image but there are perks if you do!

Love is in the air

Today I want to share the card I made for my husband with you. We have been married for over 30 years now but I really like this image, just needed the right sentiment to reflect our actual ages!

DSC_0518(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:
Lemon Shortbread - Kisses
X-Press It card (used to make an A5 card base)
Copic pens
black fine nib pen

The image and sentiment were printed as one image on the card and coloured with Copics. The edge was hand drawn with a black pen.

I wanted to keep the card CAS letting the image and sentiment take centre stage.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Oldie But Goodie at Bugaboo

At Catch the Bug on Thursdays we feature some of the older images from Bugaboo Digi Stamps. Today I want to share a birthday card for a giraffe lover.

DSC_0499(watermarked)
Material used:
Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Giraffe Blocks
Whimsy Stamps - Animal Print Digi Paper (Freebie not in shop)
DL card blank
X-Press It card
brown card
Copic pens
gold peel off greeting stickers
square die

The Giraffe Blocks are printed on X-Press It card, coloured with Copics and cut out with a square die.

The front of the card has a panel of giraffe print digi paper (found in my snippet box) and the middle image is matted onto a snippet of brown card.

The three panels are attached at different angles to the front of the card and the greeting sticker added.

I decided to keep all the giraffes the right way up although the actual Giraffe Blocks has the middle image upside down.

Thank you for dropping in. Take care.

Ballet Day with Bugaboo

Today is, apparently, ballet day and so I have made a ballet themed card for Humour Me Wednesday at Bugaboo.

DSC_0497(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Chibi Ballerina
dark pink and light pink card
designer card
X-Press It card
Copic pens
flat-backed pearl gems in white
A5 card blank

The little ballerina and her sentiment are printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copic pens. The three pearl gems are also coloured with a pink Copic.

The image and sentiment are trimmed and the image matted and layered on dark and light pink card. The sentiment is edged with a black pen.

The front of the card blank is lined with designer card from stash and the image and sentiment added.

Finally the three coloured pearls are glued in place.

Both my girls did ballet as children and my eldest has kept up her love of dance with tap, jazz and irish, although the ballet has fallen by the way. My youngest dances for excercise at home and does a lot of walking. Both are very active, unlike their mother! I do think the mother of this little cutie had it easy though, I remember having to get long fine blond hair to stay in a bun!

Thanks for stopping a while. Take care.

Shades of Red at Path of Positivity

Time for a new challenge at Path of Positivity and continuing with our colour themes this month we are focusing on Red.

DSC_0487(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:Ike's Art - Xmas Poinsettia
X-Press It card
Copic pens
blue watercolour paint

The images and words are arranged on the card then printed on E-Press It card and coloured with Copics. I have used blue watercolour paint around the Poinsettia images and left the sentiment in clear space between them.

Red is a colour that can conjuor up all sorts of emotions and associations, the colour of passion and desire but also the colour of anger and heat. I tend to think of Christmas and also my eldest daughter's wedding! Christmas is an easy association to work out, there are a lot of reds around, red santas, red decorations, red candles and so on. The association with my daughters wedding might need a little explanation so here is a photo that explains it all!

It's scary to think that this was almost 7 years ago! Both my associations with the colour red are really happy occassions and I am grateful for that.

I hope you will come along and join us on our Path of Positivity this month. Remember our challenge is Anything Goes with the option of the theme. If you do follow the optional theme, be sure to add FT after your name so that we include you in the draw for the prize for Most Inspirational. We'd also love to find out how this month's colour makes you feel, if you'd like to share that with us. What kinds of feelings does the colour RED evoke in you? You can write a sentence or two in the body of your post, write a sentence at the bottom of your post next to the link up for this challenge, or simply leave a comment on the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog post.

Remember, in order to be considered eligible for this month's prizes, ALL creations must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of a $15 gift certificate from Ike's Art, one of our guest sponsors this month. You only need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win an additional sponsored prize of Three (3) images from Pattie's Creations, the second of our guest sponsors this month, for the project chosen as Most Inspiring.

I am sure you have plenty of ideas on how to approach Shades of Red but should you need anymore inspiration visit the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog and see the wonderful creations from the rest of the Design Team. You will also find all the details of how to enter. I look forward to seeing you there.

Thanks for stopping for a while. Take care.

Scribbles Designs turns 5 and the party goes on.

It's the midway point of the Scribbles Designs birthday month. Although the week of new release posts has finished you still have time to enter the challenges. For all the links and details head over to the Scribbles Designs Blog.

Today I have another card using an image from the Penguin Party Boys set. This time I am featuring Brrad Pirate Hat.

Materials used:Scribbles Designs - Brrad Pirate Hat
Scribbles Designs - Penguin Party Boys
Crafts Too Presscut Stepper Card Die set #6
Distress Ink
previously distressed watercolour card from stash
sepia ink pad
gold mirri card
white card
X-Press It card
treasure map, treasure chest and island acrylic stamps from stash
Copic pens
white paint pen

All the images are coloured with Copic pens. The large central image is fussy cut then attached to a mat made from distressed card stamped with the map and trimmed to size.

The treasure chest and island are stamped onto X-Press It card and then cut out with a die from the set. The same has been done with the small penguins. All four images are matted onto gold card.DSC_0460(watermarked)

The card base is cut from a sheet of A4 white card and distressed with Distress Inks to match the map. The sentiment is trimmed to size.  All elements are attached to the card base.

Don't forget you still have time to join in the celebrations all the challenges are open until February 14th. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

February Challenge at Love To Craft

Materials used:Love To Knit - Jigsaw Cushion Pattern by Kim Dickinson
DK wool in various colours

This was a fun project to make, if a bit fiddly. I used yarn bobbins, a different one for each colour, which made the colour changes easier. Finding buttons was not so easy. I liked the idea of haveing buttons to match the colours in the cushion but could not find a complete set of the same type and size. In the end I opted for 'rainbow' ones which worked really well.
