Elephants never forget . . .

. . .but they might be late sometimes!

This elephant image is the one for the Dragons Lair Designs progressive challenge on Facebook which ends tomorrow! The frame is floral but I have chosen colours inspired by African patterns and it looks quite different.

DSC_0483(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:Dragons Lair Designs - (Framed Elephant not yet in store)
Whimsey Stamps - Animal Print Digital Papers (think they were a freebie because I cannot find them in the store)
X-Press It card
Copic pens
black peel off sentiment
12.5cm square card blank

The card front is covered with a paper from the Whimsey set then edged with a black pen. The elephant image is coloured with Copics then cut out and attached to the card base. Finally the sentiment is added.

I was really pleased withe the way a different colour combination turned the frame into African art. When my eldest daughter was doing her Art GCSE at school she made a fantastic piece of batik influenced by African patterns. I remember it was in reds, yellows, oranges, browns and black made up of little triangles and lines and took her ages. I just wish I had a photo to share with you, it really was amazing.

Thank you for dropping in. Take care.

Growing the Love at Limited Runs

The image for this month's progressive challenge at the Limited Runs Facebook Page can be used for so many occassions but with Valentine's Day not far off I expect it will be put to good use a lot! I have opted for an anniversary card this time.

DSC_0451(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
Limited Runs - Sweetheart Flowerpot
Imagine That Digistamp - Satin Fabrics Digi Papers
textured cream card
red card
X-Press It card
Copic Pens
heart punch
silver peel off greeting
A5 card blank
adhesive backed heart gem

The main image is printed on X-Press It card, coloured with Copic pens and fussy cut. The heart rosette embellishment is made from red hearts punched from red paper and arranged around the circle sentiment that came with the flowerpot stamp. The 'ribbon' is a thin sliver of pink paper.

The mat for the image is a piece of textures paper from my snippits box as is the layer paper which was printed out from the Silk Fabrics set.

Thank you for dropping by. Take care.

Photo Inspiration at Bugaboo

This week the challenge at Catch the Bug is a photo inspiration. Here in the UK we certainly need our umberellas at the moment for snow in the North and rain in the South West. Needless to say I am in the South West with not even a hint of snow, just rain, rain, rain and more rain!

DSC_0467(watermarked)
Materials used:Bugaboo Digi Stamps - April Word
X-Press It card
Copic pens
silver pen
pearlescent paper
flower and leave die
flat-backed gem

The wording on the right has been added on the computer before printing out with the image in place.

The little flower is made using Britannia dies and a pearl added in the  middle.

The silver border is added with a silver pen.

Time to confess, the flower is covering a gold splodge that got accidentally picked up on the card which is why it is in a strange place!

I hope you will be able to join in the fun at Catch the Bug this week. Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Acting like a monkey

A couple of days ago I shared the card I made for my son-in-law, this time it's my daughter's card I have to show you. Her birthday is the day after her husbands. She has always been the more active of my two girls, into climbing trees, and she also likes monkeys and hats so this image covers a lot of bases!

Winter Blues With Mari Ko

It's the fifth challenge at Mari Ko Creations and the theme is Winter Blues. For each challenge Mari Ko has a digi on special offer but as this is the first one of the new year she has made it available for free.

Materials used:
Mari Ko Creations - Mrs Snowman (free for members of the Facebook Group or from the store)
X-Press It card
white card
blue card
silver mirri card
My Favorite Things - X's and O's
black archival ink pad
Copic pens
A4 snowflake embossing folder
A5 card blank1
Distress Oxide ink pads
watercolour brush

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics, the background is water coloured with diluted Distress Oxide ink in blues. When dry the image is trimmed and matted onto silver mirri card

The front of the card blank is covered with a slightly smaller piece of blue card. An A4 sheet of card is embossed using the snowflake folder and trimmed to fit the front of the card allowing for a narrow blue border to show.

Finally the topper is attached to the card base and the sentiment stamped at the bottom.

I got a bit carried away with the blues and even added some to the tip of her nose to make her look frozen!

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Climb Every Mountain

Today I want to share with you the birthday card I made for my son-in-law. He and my daughter are both keen walkers so this one seemed appropriate. The photo I used for the background paper was taken at Lee Abbey where they first met.

Materials used:SheepSki Designs - Wanderer
X-Press It card
printer card
Copic pens
acrylic sentiment stamp
black archival ink pad

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics then trimmed and edged with a black pen.

The photo is printed on card, trimmed to size, edged with a black pen and attached to the front of the card blank.

The topper is added and finally the sentiment stamped on the right hand side.

It was a happy accident that the coloured image and the photo went together because when I started colouring the image I had no idea what background I was going to use!

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

8th Birthday Bash at Bugaboo

Today is the first day of a week of birthday celebrations at Bugaboo Stamps. The main theme is Birds, Butterflies & Birthday Wishes with a different additional theme each day.

For my sample I have chosen to go with butterflies.

DSC_0418(watermarked)

Materials used:Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Butterfly Globe
X-Press It card
Copic pens
liquid gloss
white card

I used the blank version of the globe and added my own sentiment then printed it out on X-Press It card and coloured it with Copics. After cutting it out I positioned the image on a folded piece of A4 card and cut around it to make a shaped card.

To get the glass of the globe I used liquid gloss. On reflection it may have been better to use embossing ink and powder and the wetness of the gloss made some of the colour run in the image. It also is quite brittle so any bending makes it crack.

I hope you can join us for the celebrations, look out for the different challenges as I am sure there will be at least one to your liking, and there are a lot of prizes on offer too. You can find all the details at Catch the Bug.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Feeling Blue

This year at Path of Positivity we are trying something new with our challenges optional themes. Each month the optional theme will focus on a particular colour. This month it is Shades of Blue.

So often after Christmas comes the low time. All the excitement and build up for weeks beforehand and now it is all over. The tinsel is looking tired, the lights have lost lustre and the baubles are battered. Family and friends that gathered from far flung parts have all returned and the daily grind resumed. On top of that, at least in this part of the world, the weather is not helping. So far this year it has done nothing but rain! It certainly is a time for feeling the blues.

However if Christmas means anything it is the promise that God loves us, provides for us all year round every day of our lives. That baby at the heart of every Nativity set, which we are all too eager to pack away for another year, grew into a man that set the world alight 2000 years ago and continues to do so today. So this year instead of leaving Jesus as a baby wrapped up, packed up and only getting a look in once a year, let's take him with us in our hearts and make him part of our lives every day, not just at Christmas. Then maybe we will  not end up with the January blues again next year.

My card was inspired in some degree by having a lot of family gatherings this Christmas and then having to say goodbye to them, some for a short time others for longer.

DSC_0399(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:Décosse's Dynamite Doodles  - Naturally Cool Set
Dragons Lair Designs - Elephant and Quote (no longer available)
X-Press It card
Copic pens
scalloped edge rectangle dies
A5 card blank

The elephant and sentiment are printed as one image and the elephant printed a second time. I used greys to colour the image then went over the top with a blue pen to give it a blue tinge.

I have used three of the papers from the Naturally Cool Set, a dark blue to cover the front of the card, a lighter blue to create a small border of the dark blue and a spotty one as a mat for the topper.

I do hope you will come a join in the fun, you have a whole month to come up with something. You do not have to follow the optional theme but if you do be sure to add FT after your name so that we include you in the draw for the prize for Most Inspirational. We'd also love to find out how this month's colour makes you feel, if you'd like to share that with us. What kinds of feelings does the colour blue evoke in you? You can write a sentence or two in the body of your post, write a sentence at the bottom of your post next to the link up for this challenge, or simply leave a comment on this post if you'd like.

Remember, in order to be considered eligible for this month's prizes, all creations must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of a $10 gift certificate from Scribbles Designs, one of our guest sponsors this month. You only need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win an additional sponsored prize of  the Naturally Cool Kit from Décosse's Dynamite Doodles, the second of our guest sponsors this month, for the project chosen as Most Inspiring.

Thank you for dropping in. Take care.

It can only get better

I've done it again and almost missed a deadline. In my defense, your honour, I'd like to cite the wrong date on the DT page but I really should have checked! Still better late than never.

After the Christmas break the Bugaboo DT returned on the 6th with the first challenge of the new year. I am here with my sample for the first Stella Says Sketch challenge of 2018.

I have rotated the sketch through 90° left.

DSC_0408(watermarked).JPG

designer papers from First Edition Paper 6x6 Christmas Wishes pad
X-Press It card
A5 card blank
word dies
scalloped edged large rectangle die
Copic pens
Crop-A-Dile

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics then trimmed and matted on a sheet of the designer paper.

The red scalloped edge is made using the rectangle die.

The three 'gems' are punched from designer paper using the smaller size on the Crop-A-Dile.

I hope you will come and join us at Catch the Bug for the first SSS challenge of the year. You have 2 weeks to get your entry in.

HOW TO PLAY: Enter up to 3 times a project using the above Stella Says Sketch sketch. If you use a Bugaboo Image, you could WIN 10, 7 or 4 Bugaboo Images of your choice. We LOVE to see what you do with your Bugaboos! If you NEED a Bugaboo Stamp to use, head on over to the store and get this weeks Friday Freebie! If you have a wonderful NON-Bugaboo Image you'd like to use, you’ll be eligible for 7 or 4 Bugaboo Stamps Images of your choice if you’re one of our winners! Penguin Trio

It's the midway point of the Welcome to the North Pole challenge at Scribbles Designs. This time I have a set of 3 penguin ATC's to share with you. For those who do not already know I am mad about penguins!

DSC_0356(watermarked).JPGDSC_0353(watermarked).JPGDSC_0352(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:Scribbles Designs - Three B's Trio
We are 3 Digital - Watercolour Batik
Copic pens
X-Press It card
printer card

The pengins are printed on X-Press It card, coloured with Copics and fussy cut.

The ATC bases are made from a Watercolour Batik paper printed on printer card, cut to size and edged with a black pen.  I chose the most wintery looking design from the set.
There are a couple of weeks left to enter this challenge so why not have a go, it's a good excuse to try out any new crafting goodies left by Santa! You could even combine it with making your 'Thank You' letters/cards.  All the details can be found on the Scribbles Designs Blog.

I hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for taking time out from the celebrating to visit. Take care.

The Challenge For Every Crafter

It's the start of a new month, a new year and a new challenge at Love to Craft. As always it is an anything goes in the widest sense of the term. So whatever your craft is this challenge is for you.

Because I am primarily a card maker, this time I want to share with you the Christmas card I made for my husband. I usually go for a more traditional religious image but saw this one and knew I had to use it. When we moved into our retirement home one of the first things we did was to replace the condemned gas fire with a log burning stove. We share the log fetching duties but not equally, Tim gets the lions share of the work!

DSC_0360(watermarked)

Materials used:Mo's Digital Pencil - Carrying the Wood
Docrafts - Christmas Greeting (not sure if it is still available)
X-Press It card
green glitter card
A5 card blank
Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Jewels - Diamond Sprinkles
Copic pens
black archival ink pad

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics. The snow is made using Collall Tacky Glue quite thickly then sprinkled with Dimond Sprinkles. The glue kept it's dimension adding to the snow effect.

The image is trimmed to size, matted onto green sparkly card and attached to the card front. The greeting is stamped on in black.

The challenge at Love to Craft runs for the month so you have plenty of time to join in the fun. Remember we are an all-crafts challenge blog and welcome any and all kinds of handmade creations - from cards, tags, ATCs and scrapbook layouts - to 3-D projects, mixed media canvases and altered projects - and even knitting, crocheting, quilting and jewelry-making! Whatever you're working on, we want to see it!

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.
