Cheeky Scarecrow

Today is Freebie Friday at Bugaboo Digi Stamps and this time the image on offer is a cheeky scarecrow. For my card I have teamed him up with one of Bugaboo's pumpkin images.

SAM_4910(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Scarecrow Sitter  (Friday Freebie Image)
Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Halloween Pumpkin
acrylic greeting stamp
archival black ink pad
Copic pens
green and yellow card
A5 card blank
adhesive gems

That cheeky scarecrow looks very happy sat on his pumpkin!

You may have noticed the new watermark! I have actually been a full member of the Bugaboo DT for a while but have only just noticed that I had still been using my guest designer watermark. Put it down to yet another senior moment. Since I love penguins this one was a treat!

Don't forget if you like the Scarecrow Sitter you can pick him up for free from Bugaboo Digi Stamps and while you are there take a look at all the other wonderful Bugaboo images.

Thanks for popping in. Take care.

All Dressed Up for a Party

Here I am again with another freebie image from the Kit and Clowder party.

SAM_4917(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:All Dressed Up Stamps - Feeling Spoilt
acrylic greeting stamp
black archival ink pad
Copic pens
green, lilac and mid grey card
X-Press It card
adhesive gems
A5 card blank

Colouring up this cutie was a challenge, I had printed her quite small so she is tall but so thin!  I chose the colours of the mats she is mounted on to compliment her dress and the present she is holding. The large grey mat was the only colour I could think of from my stash that would take the green and purple without overpowering them.

The little gem stones in the top left and bottom right corners reflect back the colours around them. It does not show up that well in the photo. If you hold them up to the light and move them about a bit you get a kaleidoscope of colour in them.

Thanks for popping in. Take care.

Blinged Up Owl At Limited Runs

This month the image for the Limited Runs Progressive Challenge is an owl.

SAM_4933(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
Limited Runs Digital Stamps - Art Deco Owl
acrylic greeting stamp
X-Press It card
Copic pens
black archival ink pad
Distress Oxides
printer paper
That Special Touch Mica Masks - Leafy
wood grain mask (freebie from crafting magazine)
stencil brushes
very old adhesive gems

The background is made using different Distress Oxides in greens and browns and the stencils on printer paper. I used the leafy stencil on the front of an A5 card blank then cut some extras from the paper I had made. The tree and branch are cut from paper made with the wood grain stencil.

The owl is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics. The gems on his eyes are some I have had for some time but not really known what to use them on. They are not bright enough to be orange, neither are they brown or gold. however they seem to work on my owl.
I have just got time to get him into the Limited Runs Challenge so excuse the rush! Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Friendly Spirits

I don't celebrate halloween, to be honest I have never seen the attraction in anything remotely resembling the  occult, so when Scrapper's Delights came up with the image of little ghosts as the next one in the progressive challenge it did present a dilemma!

So I decided rather than miss out on this one and ignore it I would aim to go for something friendlier so no scary houses, witches, warlocks, ghouls or screaming banshee.

SAM_4915(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:Scrapper's Delights - Ghosts
textured orange card
black card
X-Press It card
Copic pens
flat backed adhesive pearls
A5 white card blank

The photo does not show it very well but there are some pale grey shadows on the image. The sentiment is computer generated from a generic font.

Thank you for dropping in. Take care.

Age and Art

Today I want to share with you my card for this month's Imagine That Digistamp Creative Playground link up. I have used the image that came free by linking up last month so a progressive challenge if you like.

SAM_4914(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:Imagine That Digistamp - Manatee Painter
gold mirri card
X-Press It card
A4 white printer card
purple adhesive gems
Copic pens

I wonder what masterpiece this manatee will come up with! Originally I was going to put a sentiment in there but then thought better of it. A blank canvas leaves much more to the imagination, also I had found the quote from Stanislaw Jerzy Lec and wanted to use it.

I used the computer to print the quote onto an A5 tent fold card blank before adding the topper.

This could be one for a male birthday in the future.

Thanks  for visiting. Take care.

Ice Queen

A few weeks ago Kit and Clowder had a mega party to celebrate 15,000 followers on the Facebook Page. There were competitions, fun and games and a host of free images from their wonderful sponsors. This Ice Queen image was one of the freebies on offer.

SAM_4918(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
SheepSki Designs - Ice Queen
Bearly Mine Designs - Winter Swirls #18 (no longer trading)
acrylic greeting stamp
Copic pens
black archival ink pad
silver and pearl liquid pearls
green mirri card
adhesive flat backed pearls
A5 card blank

The main image is coloured with Copics and the liquid pearls added to the head dress and her eyebrows. Then the card is made up as in the image.

This image is not one I would naturally have chosen and I fought shy of it for some time. However, as is often the case, when I did eventually give it a go I quite enjoyed colouring it.

Thanks for visiting. Take care.

Materials used:
The Paper Shelter - Vintage Seamstress
acrylic greeting stamp
printer paper
X-Press It card
Copic pens
2 buttons
15cm square card blank
black archival ink pad

The coloured image was a bit too fiddly to fussy cut so I used a Copic pen to colour in the white parts as closely resembling the colour of the backing paper as I could get.

The mat is printed from the same kit and trimmed to fit the card blank. The two buttons cover two buttons on the paper.

I made this card for a friend who is retireing from the same school I worked at. She is a wonderful seamstress among other talents and thought this would be just right for her.

New Release at Bugaboo

Tuesday is new release day at Bugaboo Digi Stamps and with Christmas rapidly approaching I think this snowman image will be very popular.

SAM_4907(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Sign It Snowman
Bearly Mine - Winter Swirls Digi Paper (sadly out of business now)
acrylic greeting stamp
acrylic snowflake stamps
White DL card blank
X-Press It card
black archival ink pad
Copic pen

The backing paper is from stash and is from a company that no longer trades. I have manage to size and position it so that the trees are in proportion with the snowman. The book title was added to the image before being printed out.

To add the snowflakes to the book cover I masked the book off then stamped the snowflakes with black ink.

I think I should appologise for the very corny book title!

This snowman and his big book is so versatile because you could put anything you like on the book cover.

This image is available from the Bugaboo Digi Stamps store from today along with a host of wonderful images. You can find more inspiration for using it from other members of the DT on the Catch the Bug Blog.

Thanks for dropping by. Take care.

Surround Yourself With Literature

The challenge at Path of Positivity has reached the midway point. This month we have been thinking about literature and what books mean to us. With me being a librarian and teacher in my working life and married to a vicar you can imagine the number of books we had around the place. Since moving out of the vicarage into our much smaller home we have had to have a cull in order to get everything in. My cull has been somewhat more successful than my husbands!

The image I chose to work with for my project reflects my feelings about a select number of books that I have read again and again. I have already talked about my love for the classics especially Jane Eyre and A Christmas Carol, the latter being an annual read. I have also read Les Miserables more than once and Don Quixote! They are like friends, reliable not to change and always a joy to revisit.

Materials used:Sparkle N Sprinkle - Nasturium Digi Stamp Set
X-Press It card

15cm square card blank

The sentiment and the flower border are arranged on the page before printing onto the X-Press It card and a second larger panel has been printed which is where the large flower in the top left corner came from.  All colouring is with Copic pens.

Do you have a favourite book or have you been inspired by particular books. It would be lovely if you felt able to make a project to share with us at Path of Positivity and you may even win a prize! All the details of how to enter and the prizes on offer can be found on the Path of Positivity Blog. You do not have to follow the theme, it is optional, but there are more benefits for doing so!

CHALLENGE DETAILS SUMMARY
Whether you are new and need to familiarize yourself with all the details, or a returning participant and just need to refresh yourself, you can always find out everything you need to know in order to enter this challenge in the 'Challenge Details' tab at the top of the page. I've provided a quick summary below. Please note that dates and times listed below are for this particular challenge only:

  • Each Path of Positivity challenge will remain open for approx. a full month. Entries for this challenge will be accepted from October 2nd to November 5th, 2017.

  • Add your inspirational project or post using the link up below. You will be able to submit your entry until 11:59 p.m. on November 5th.

  • If you have chosen to follow the optional theme, you will need to let us know what it is about your project or post that you feel is inspirational  / positive / motivational and how it fits into the theme. Please include this information somewhere within your post. You can simply add a sentence or two at the bottom of your post right next to the link for this challenge if you want. Or, if this isn't possible, come over and leave us a comment on the start post. You must also add 'FT' after you name so we know which creations to add to the draw for the sponsor's prize for Most Inspirational.

  • Don't forget to come back throughout the month and visit others that have participated.

  • You can link up a total of three (3) creations.

  • Voting for this challenge will begin once the top picks have been determined. There will be a separate post detailing those picks. You will then have the opportunity to vote on the creation or post that you have found to be the most inspirational of the chosen picks.

  • For Challenge #52, prizes will be the following:

    • $15.00 worth of digital images from Sparkle N Sprinkle for the post or project that the DT deems most inspiring of the bunch (based on those projects who have followed the theme).

Anything Goes With Bugaboo

Time for a new challenge at Catch the Bug and this week it is Anything Goes.

SAM_4850(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:
Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Thoughts and Prayers Candle
sentiment stamp
black archival ink pad
purple, black and silver card
15cm card blank made into an easle card
X-Press It card
Copic pens

The Thoughts and Prayers image has a wide border on it which I did not want to use so I have cut it out along the inner edge going around the overhanging leaves and then matted it on black card leaving a narrow border.

So why not have a go yourself, there are lots of prizes on offer. All the rules and prize details are on the Catch the Bug Bog. Hope to see you there.

PoP Challenge: Surround yourself with literature

At the Path of Positivity last month we began a three month sequence of themes based on the arts. Last month is was art and this month it's the turn of literature.

As a child with congenital heart defects much of my childhood was spent indoors. I was not able to be very active physically so spent my time getting lost in books. I learnt to read at quite an early age and never looked back. Most of the time I read novels, classic and modern. My favourite genre is historical novels and I am especially fond of  the likes of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisers, Charles Dickens. My two all time favourites are Dicken's A Christmas Carol and Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. When choosing an image to use for this challenge I saw this one and was reminded of both of these stories.

SAM_4837(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:

Sparkle N Sprinkle - Victorian Camille at Christmas
acrylic birthday greeting stamp
X-Press It card
green, pink, shimmer grey card
A5 card blank
white adhesive gems
pine frond cutting die
Copic pens
black archival ink pad
white Sharpie paint pen

Camille is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics, the snow flakes are coloured with the white Sharpie. The greetings is stamped on a snippet of white card and trimmed. Both are matted and layered onto green and pink card.

The card blank front is covered with grey card then the topper and greeting attached.  The white gems are coloured with a red Copic pen. The die cut fronds and gems are arranged on the card front then glued down.

Although the image is a Chritmas one I wanted to make a birthday card suitable for a winter birthday and it just seemed to be ideal for that.

I hope that you will be able to join us this month. Sparkle N Sprinkle have some lovey images in their store and they have provided two $15 prizes for the challenge winners. All the details of how to enter, instructions and inspiration can be found on the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog.

Flamingo Birthday Wishes

Today I have a birthday card to share made with the Imagine That Digistamp image from last month's Creative Playground challenge. Everyone who links up to the challenge gets the featured digistamp.

SAM_4848(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
Imagine That Digistamp - Flamingo Dress Up
Whimsy Stamps - It's A Party 6x6 Designer Paper
X-Press It card
printer paper
Copic pens

I think it is fairly obvious how it is made so I have decided to cut the writing down! It does take a long time for me to write the post so anything that is going to make it quicker will be a great help. This time of the month a lot of the challenges I am a DT for start so there are a lot of posts to get written up and to be honest, Iwould rather be colouring! So am going to trial a change in style and just put but the essentials.

Thanks for dropping in.

Dancing Dragonflies

Time for the midway reminder post for the Scribbles Designs Challenge with the theme of Embossing (wet or dry). Use either dry or wet embossing. If you don't have an embosser, maybe you could use a pre-embossed patterned paper.

One of the disadvantages of digi stamps is not being able to wet emboss them as easily as acrylic or rubber stamps. It is possible but it's a bit fiddley, and I don't do fiddley! So this is my 'easier' solution!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES
Materials used:
Scribbles Designs - #F122 Dragonfly
Scribbles Designs - #F35 Lilypad (free)
X-Press It card
Copic pens
Heat It Up! embossing powders - Holographic, Silver Pearl, Blue Glass, Enchanted Gold
FunStamps embossing powder - Verdigris
embossing pen

The two images and the quote are arranged on the page and printed onto X-Press It card. The lilypad is coloured with Copic pens.

For the dragonfly body I mixed a little of the embossing powders together to try to mimic the shimmer on a dragonfly. I painted the image with the embossing pen then embossed in the usual way. I repeated the process a couple of times to make sure nothing had been missed.  I then did the same for the wings but this time just ued Silver Pearl and then Holographic on top.
There are a number of videos around on the internet describing how to emboss the lines of a digi image so maybe one day I will have a go at it, if my printer will take it!

If you have ever wet embossed the line art of a digi image I would love to know how it worked out.

Meanwhile there are still two weeks left for you to have  a go at the challenge. Remember you can use embossed papers made or bought it still counts. All the details are on the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog, there is even a freebie image you can pick up. Looking forward to seeing your creations.

Thanks for popping in. Take care.

Nature's Autumn Bounty

It's the first of the month and time for the start of a new challenge at Love to Craft. Come play with us! We are an all-crafts challenge blog and welcome any and all kinds of handmade creations - from cards, tags, ATCs and scrapbook layouts - to 3-D projects, mixed media canvases and altered projects - and even knitting, crocheting, quilting and jewelry-making! Whatever you're working on, we want to see it! Just to prove the point that anything does go I have come up with something very different this time.

I recently saw on the internet a jar full of fairy wings made from coloured sycamore 'keys'. It got me thinking, why stop at wings why not go the whole way. So with Christmas in mind I thought I would experiment and try making an angel ornament from whateve I could find in the nearby wood.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES
Materials used:

hazelnut in it's skirt
acorn in it's cap
sycamore 'keys'
glue gun
linen thread

A walk in the wood collecting 'bits' is always great fun and good for you too! I managed to find quite a lot of nuts and seeds the trick was how to arrange them to  make an angel. It did take a few trial runs before this combination came about.

I used a hazelnut for the body, I thought that the 'skirt' looked good, and a small acorn still in it's cap for the head. The wings are two sycamore keys, at least I think they are, that were still green. They made a good colour contrast with all the brown.

The little angel is all glued together using a hot glue gun.

If I ever get time I hope to make up a few more and hang them on a tree out in the garden for Christmas.

Maybe my post will inspire you to give it a go or even to come up with your own ideas from nature's free resources. We  would love to see you enter the challenge, you have a month to get those creations in. All the details are on the Love To Craft Challenge Blog.

Thanks for visiting. Take care.
