Summer Treats

Another Saturday and another challenge at Catch the Bug. This week there is a photo for your inspiration.

I have used two wonderful Bugaboo images for my sample.

SAM_4226(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
Bugaboo Digi Stamps -  Ice Cream Dog
Bugaboo Digi Stamps -  Kidz - Ice Cream
Imagine That Digistamp - Ice Cream Sentiments
Imagine That Digistamp - Ice Cream Parlour Digi Papers
X-Press It card
printer paper
white printer card
Copic pens

The two images are arranged on a Word document then printed onto X-Press It card and coloured with Copics.

Two Ice Cream Parlour papers are printed on white paper and the sentiment on white card. The papers are used to mat the trimmed image and to line the front of the card blank.

The sentiment is trimmed to size and attached to the card under the image.

I am writing this on a really hot afternoon so could really do with an ice cream myself or failing that a lemon sorbet. Gosh! I had better stop this line of thought as I am making myself hungry! The post actually goes live on the 24th which would be my Dad's birth - day. He too loved ice cream, I am very much a daddy's girl and miss him more as I get older. It's funny that I find the passage of time brings more memories to mind than less but the ache of loss has lessened as the years have gone by.

The challenge at Catch the Bug runs for the week so why not come and join in. You will find more inspiration from the DT, full instructions and a link to the store on the Catch the Bug Blog.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Faith, Hope and Love

This month the optional theme at Path of Positivity is Faith, Hope and Love. As it is June and the start of the most popular time for weddings we are looking especially for wedding/engagement/anniversary makes reflecting the Faith, Hope and Love theme.

I love finding songs that have thought provoking or inspiring lyrics. I have used quite a few 'unusual' ones in my All Age Worship Services over the years. Jim Croce's 'Time in a bottle' has always been a favourite, the melody is lovely and the words are wonderful. In fact they work so well with the theme for the challenge that I decided to  make them the focal of my make.

Just in case you cannot make out the words from my photo here they are, including the part that did not fit on the front.

"Time In A Bottle"
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with youIf I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then
Again, I would spend them with youBut there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do, once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time withIf I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty, except for the memory of how
They were answered by youBut there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do, once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with

Time In A Bottle(watermarked)

Materials used:
- As Time Goes By Clockwork papers
Decosse's Dynamite Doodles - A Matter of Time Watch Patterned Paper
Dragons Lair Designs - Summer Sunset Couple Digi Stamp
Serif Craft Artist 2 programme or similar graphics software. (Link to free compact version)

This is a different project for me because I have made the whole thing digitally, not a piece of paper or pen in sight. The papers are layered up, the text and digi stamp added and the shadows put in using Craft Artist software.

If I wanted to make a physical card I have two choices. I could print out all the different element and then assemble them or I could print out the whole project as a card leaving the shadows to give some depth to it. It would also work really well as a scrapbook page, again either printing out the different elements and assembling them or printing off as one page.

While it was fun playing around with the software if I am being totally honest nothing quite beats the more hands on approach with paper, pens and glue!

The optional theme at Path of Positivity is Faith, Hope and Love. As this is the start of the wedding season we would particularly like to see Wedding, Engagement and Anniversary makes.

In order to have a chance to win the prize for the Most Inspirational Creation, we want to see you create a wedding card, an engagement card or even a wedding anniversary card that reflects the concepts of faith, hope and/or love.  It is time to put on those rose coloured glasses and get a little mushy.

If you do follow the optional theme, be sure to add FT after your name so that we include you in the draw for the prize for Most Inspirational. We also ask that you please leave a comment letting us know how your wedding or engagement card relates to the concept of faith, hope and/or love if it isn’t readily clear within the design itself or clearly written somewhere else in your post. While you may easily see how your creation ties into the theme, it may not be as apparent to me or the DT members. That is why we ask that you clarify it somewhere, whether here or in your blogpost. You can simply write a sentence at the bottom of your post next to the link up for this challenge, if it would be easier. We just need to know how your project ties into the theme. Letting us know, clears up any ambiguity that may exist.

Remember, in order to be considered eligible for this month’s prizes, ALL creations must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. You don’t need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of three images from Pattie’s Creations, one of our guest sponsors this month. You only need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win this month’s sponsored prize of a scrapbooking kit from Décosse’s Dynamite Doodles, provided by the second of our guest sponsors this month.

So what are you waiting for, come along and join us, please.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Summer Is A Comin'

It's that time of the year when all teachers start counting down to the end of term and the summer break. Hopefully this year we will see the sun more than the rain! At Scribbles Designs a new challenge starts today with the theme 'Holiday Hoopla'. So we would love to see your holiday related cards. It can be for any of the many holidays celebrated around the world, from New Year until Christmas there are so many to choose from! Being a sea loving girl I went with the summer for my sample.

SAM_4234(watermarked).JPG

Materials used:
Scribbles Designs - Sand Bucket (freebie)
Scribbles Designs - Sizzling Summer Papers
acrylic sentiment stamp (free with Creative Stamping Magazine)
black archival ink
X-Press It card
Copic pens
blank A5 card base

I printed out two of the papers then ripped strips and glued to the front of the card base to make the background. The idea is that the sandcastles are the 'beach' and the duck rings the 'sea'. I left the white edge on the 'sea' strips to make it look a little like the tops of waves.

The Sand Bucket image has been printed out on X-Press It card three times, coloured and then used to make the 3d image.

The sentiment is stamped on white card, trimmed and edged with a pen then the same pen used to edge the card.

I hope you will come and join us at Scribbles Designs. You have until the 14th July to get your entry in. You will find more inspiration from the DT on the blog as well as a link to the store where there are plenty of images to inspire your creations.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Not quite sure what happened to her eyes in the photo, it may be a strange shadow as it does not look like that in the original.

Ultimate Dr Who Fan?

The Progressive Freebie Challenge is in full swing at the Limited Runs Facebook Page and there is just under one week left to enter. This month the image is a deadly looking bug!

gold mirri card
alchol ink coloured acetate from snippits box

Going to the Heart of the Matter

I am writing this post the day after the terror attack in Manchester and I hope that, even though by the time this goes live it will be two weeks after the event, you will let me digress a little with some thoughts of my own.

When faced with the complete senseless nature of a cowardly attack like this, made even more poignant by the young age of the victims, it is hard not to sink into a knee jerk reaction of hate for the perpetrator. In the shock and bewilderment of the immediate aftermath of the attack Manchester showed it's true colours of love and compassion. The tales of taxi's providing free rides to those caught up in the chaos, hotels opening up rooms for free and people offering rooms in their own homes, the one thing evil cannot conquer is love.  So Manchester has restored faith in human beings, given hope that good will overcome and has shown love even for the stranger.

It is purely by chance that my card for the start of the new challenge at Path of Positivity fits so well.

1John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 4:18 . . .  But perfect love drives out fear . . .
1 Corinthians 13:13  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

(Since writing this there has been another terror attack in London and the spirit of Manchester has been shown there as well with selfless acts of bravery and support. Love conquers all.)

Birthday Roses

Today is my sister-in-laws 70th birthday and we are having a tribe gathering to mark the occasion. While trying to find something for her garden I looked up Birthday Rose and discovered that there is one and it is a peachy colour. I decided to go with that colour scheme for the card I made her.

SAM_4170(watermarked).JPG
Materials used:
Bugaboo Digi Stamps - Roses Special Day (sorry could not find in the shop)
X-Press It card
deep orange card
pale orange card
designer paper
shimmer white paper
adhesive gems
Britannia Flower die
Britannia leaves die
Copic pens
peel off greetings labels in gold
15cm square card blank

The image is printed on X-Press It card and coloured with Copics then trimmed and matted onto designer paper.

The card blank is scored to make an easel card then lined with dark orange card. The matted image is layered onto pale orange card then attached to the card front.

The flower petals and leaves are die cut from the shimmer paper and coloured  with Copics. When dry the roses are assembled.

An off cut of white card is used to attach the greeting too then trimmed and edged using an orange pen before being attached to the inside of the card. The leaves and roses are arranged to make the stop for the easel part.

Finally the adhesive gems are added as shown.

It is the first challenge of the month at Catch the Bug and the theme is Anything Goes, so why not pop over and have a look as the inspiration from the rest of the team. Hopefully it will inspire you enough to join in with us too.

Thanks for dropping in. Take care.
